Cactus & Succulents: Don't let me drown!
Updated: Nov 12, 2024

Succulents are rapidly growing in popularity for two simple reasons, they are beautiful and nearly indestructible if you have a minimum care.
A succulent plant is the one that has fat leaves, stem or roots containing water storage organs. These organs allow the plants to adapt and to survive.
Basics of Succulent care
1- Don’t let me die in this swamp!
The most common problem for all deaths of succulent plants in the home is overwater them. Overwatering, especially combined with cool temperatures, induces rotting of plant tissues. On the other hand, it is a myth that succulents don’t need water at all. The best quantity of water is capable to leave the soil moist, not wet. Once every two weeks should be more than enough.
2- Light requirements
The best place to keep your succulent bowl is a table with morning sun exposure because succulents love light and need gentle sun, but not too much or they may burn.
3- Temperature
Temperature is an important factor to the health of succulents. They are more cold tolerant that is generally assumed. These plants prefer temperatures between 70F and 85F and nighttime 50F and 55F.
4- Potting soil
Light and temperature are often difficult to control, when you keep your succulent indoor, but the soil you can manage to give it proper nutrients. You can find a mix at any gardening store near your home. Add fertilizer formulated for succulents about once a month to keep plants healthy.
Friendly reminder: All cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are cact
